Khadda Madani is a self-taught artist whose work delves into themes of the dreamlike and super natural, opening liminal spaces of the material world where encounters with the magical happen.
Her colorful works are populated with bold patterns and intricate lines that loosely form almost recognizable organisms that look at times other worldly. The natural world is represented through plants and flowers, bulging and pushing out from the fabric in a powerful affirmation and celebration of their existence that is almost disorienting. These creatures and symbiotic shapes stand at the threshold between their previous way of structuring their identity and a new way of being.
Drawing inspiration from her cultural heritage of Algeria, North Africa, she creates pieces that invite viewers to feel the bountiful possibilities bestowed on us by nature and a miraculous universe.
Madani’s work has been featured in exhibitions in New York, Dakar and Berlin, and continues to evolve through exploration and experimentation.
